My name is Cayce Berryman, and I live in Louisville, Kentucky.
I am an editor with a passion for words. Helping writers refine and discover their voice is what I do best. One of the first things I learned when I started editing was that every rule can be broken, but it must serve a purpose.
I offer a variety of editing services, as well as a consultation service, both for fiction and non-fiction works.
What else do I do?
Currently, I also work as a finisher and newspaper designer for Gannett (USA Today Network). I have an associate degree in journalism, and I earned my bachelor’s in creative writing and English in October 2016.
I discovered that I loved editing while I was in college working for the newspaper there. I’d started a writing group in that time, which allowed me to know what I wanted to do.
I also own and run an interactive Facebook group, Authors’ Tale, which serves as a supportive platform for budding writers and published authors, as well as a “writer’s gym” where the creative and knowledgeable mind can expand and continue to learn. I believe that every writer’s voice is important, and every voice is worth hearing. That’s why our group functions under the philosophy “Write and surprise others, but keep learning and surprise yourself.”
What have I done?
I have an associate degree in journalism and a bachelor’s degree in creative writing and English. I’ve been a copyeditor for my college newspaper, and from there, I moved on to design and worked as a designer and copyeditor for Journal Media Group, now known as Gannett.
Before that, I was a story coordinator for the Collaborative Writing Challenge, an event that brings authors together to create a single novel. I was also the managing editor for the college newspaper during that time, as well as a photographer and freelance editor.
I earned a certificate in copywriting from AWAI, American Writers & Arists, Inc. I didn’t get to do any travel writing. (Darn.)
Outside of work
When I’m not working, I do whatever I can to be around my horses, or I’m setting up my camera for a day of photography. I love the Lord, and I enjoy the world He created whether above land or sixty feet below water. Yes, I’m also a scuba diver. I haven’t done it in a couple years due to a busy schedule, but I’m certified in navigation, stress and rescue, and more.
I love walking on a nice day, and I hate the cold. I’m usually the hermit in my apartment, but sometimes, people can hear me playing the ocarina or the guitar. I do get out, though.
I’m also a writer, of course, and I write when inspiration hits. Usually, it’s a fantasy that crept into my dreams or a thriller that haunts my thoughts until I get it out of my head and onto paper.
Most of the time, my day is filled with words, but I always make time for the simpler things, too. Now that I live in Kentucky, I hope to spend more time outside, but we’ll see if that happens.
