I am so thankful for Cayce and the awesome editing that she provided me. I attended a workshop that Cayce ran through a Facebook writing group, and the entire experience was amazing!
Full disclosure: I was a touch skeptical at first about whether the concept of the workshop would work at all. I mean, the workshop consisted of about 16 writers working together online over about a month critiquing one another’s work and then posting revisions based on those critiques. The other writers and I never met face to face, so I didn’t know whether virtual strangers (pun sort of intended!) would be able to help me make my piece the best it could possibly be.
Cayce’s attention to detail and her simple yet effective organization of the group guaranteed that everyone got the most out of the critiques as well as the writing process itself. We finished our pieces on time and were respectful and open to one another’s suggestions, advice and ideas. I didn’t agree with everyone all the time, but I didn’t mind considering their thoughts because the design of the workshop made it easy to do so. Cayce is the main driver behind that.
I’m an editor myself, so I know exactly how challenging this must have been for Cayce. I can say without a doubt that when I have a piece that needs hefty editing, Cayce will be at the top of my list of editors to consider. The work Cayce provided on my fantasy manuscript couldn’t have been more helpful. Not only did she correct the typos, grammar, and punctuation, but she also called to light some commonly made mistakes throughout the piece which I had never noticed before. Any idea, no matter how good, presented poorly is a bad idea. I have been writing out bad ideas for a while now. If you’re like me, you aren’t aware that what you have isn’t the best you can do. I was only made aware of this after I sent my work to Ms. Berryman.
